Find A Movie

A good date can survive a horrible movie if the theater’s right — or weird enough. For creative options beyond the big screen, think bigger: Besides the Simons IMAX at the Aquarium (see above), you’ll find IMAX screens at the Museum of Science (Science Park. 617-723-2500. | MBTA: Green Line to Lechmere. www.mos.org) and, weirdly, Jordan’s Furniture (1 Underprice Way, Natick. 508-424-0088. www.jordans.com). Or, if you’re lucky enough to have a car, swing into the Leicester Drive-in in Leicester (1675 Main St.), which features new releases for $20 a carload. For directions, call (508) 892-4400.

Ooh, this is a tough one. First, let’s set a few ground rules. When discussing concessions, price cannot be a factor: At every theater in Boston, you’re going to pay $7.50 for a box of Goobers, so get over it. And popcorn: It’s got to be real butter or nothing. That said, the Somerville Theatre, which features naturally-flavored corn and other treats (including ice cream!) takes the lead. But it’s edged out (slightly) by the pure selection available at Kendall Square. With light-and-fluffy popcorn and soothing snacks — like organic brownies and a wide array of herbal teas — the theater makes us feel good about feeling fat.

Best film you’ve never seen: “‘Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains,’ featuring a very young Diane Lane and Laura Dern as the members of an all grrrl band who hit the road with a raunchy British punk band (featuring members of the Sex Pistols and the Clash). An early ’80s classic never released on video. Find a fourth generation dub if you have to — it’s that worth it.”
Best film to see at midnight: “‘The Warriors,’ Walter Hill’s 70’s action film featuring warring gangs, each with crazy theme costumes, who rule the New York City streets. As the Wu Tang Gang says: ‘Warriors, come out and plaaaay.’”
Best movie featuring Bruce Campbell as Elvis Presley: “‘Bubba Ho-tep’”
Best Undead Movies Ever: “Stay up all night and cleanse your soul with a festival of these great zombie films ... and remember, aim for the head. ‘Night of the Living Dead,’ ‘Dawn of the Dead’ (the original and the remake), ‘Dead Alive,’ ‘Night of the Comet,’ ‘Re-Animator,’ ‘Phantasm 2,’ ‘Evil Dead 2,’ ‘Plan 9 From Outer Space,’ ‘Pet Sematary,’ ‘The Serpent and the Rainbow,’ ‘Versus,’ ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ and of course Lucio Fulci’s ‘Zombie.’”
Best movie to make-out to: “‘Dirty Dancing.’ No, I’m not kidding, give it a try.”
