2008 NBA Champs - Celtics Rolling Rally
The Boston Celtics took their 2008 NBA trophy on a victory lap through downtown Boston today, a rolling rally in Duck Boats from the TD Banknorth Garden to Copley Square. Their 131-92 win against the L.A. Lakers on Tuesday brought home the 17th championship for the Celtics, the first since 1986. (16 photos total)

Looks like Bill Russell hasn't used his "Just for Men" in a few weeks!
I love the confetti shot...amazing.
Does no one in Boston work on Thursdays. Great series.
Boy, the Bruins have really gotta be feeling the pressure now.
Kevin looks like a fool with his hat all crooked. Why the need to promote gang attire? We have enough of that and the gang violence without sports stars encouraging it.
Of course this post is about the Celtics!!!
Congratulations to all the good people of Boston!
Thanks!
Great pictures as always
each of those diamonds in kevin's ears are worth more than the trophy he's carrying!
Yeah, well, he's a showboater. Oh well though, he is also an amazing player and I think his energy helps make it more exciting. I live about 45 minutes from Boston, and most people are excused from work to go to these things, even in my area.
Grammar nit: "gatorade" should be "Gatorade"
Ryan, gang attire? What are you talking about? He just has his hat slightly to the side. How is that gang attire?
wow. what a perfect way to end the season... i love this team... Please don't trade House, Posey T-Allen... pleaseeeeeeeee
...... look KG just got the hat the price tag is still on it ...
To Ryan,
I hate how people like you pick at lil things and consider it gang affiliated. Garnett won the championship and he can wear his hat however the f**k he wants...People who wear their hats to the side doesn't make them look like a gang member. Look how nicely dressed the Bush administration is, and your beloved is president and his peope are the biggest gang/terrorist group in the world!!
Get a proper education and stop writing ignorant comments you mindless drone.
Ryan,
Im in the USAF, a college student and I love the Celtics. I wear my fitted Celtics hats to the side. And last I checked, Im not in a gang. Its just a style so leave it at that. KG can rock the brim sideways all he wants anyway because he won us a championship. Just be happy he is a classy guy playing for our team and not an actual gang member.
Gang member? Dude, I'm a cop, and that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Garnett rocks, you're weird, and GO CELTS!
For sure, there's some Auerbach trickle down here.......what a return to glory!
Thanks, Celts!
Kick Ass Celtics! You are our heros! From very happy Sacramento Kings fans!
There is nothing better than to see LA go down.
Love this team!!!! They are a very good team and one of the best in years. No not the most talented across the board but they are a rock solid team. They work as a unit and make sacrafices for the good and betterment of the team. Notice the key word in this paragraph is TEAM....go Celtics and good luck next year Enjoy the moment Boston loves you!!!!
He does like like a lowlife with his gangsta outfit. Looks like he is about to rob a liquor store.
I love photos with the O'Brien Trophy because you get to see cool reflections
Whats this "2008 *World* Champions business ? I'm sure they could very well be good enough to be exactly that if they played some international teams, but they've only played American teams. Blinkered arrogance as usual from the good ole US of Eh!
Ryan, you're a dumb, ignorant muthaf**er. Really, a tilted hat = promoting gang violence, you must be kidding me....dumb, ignorant muthaf**ker. Why not call Bill Russell as being a promoter of gang violence as he fully endorses all of KG's actions and has said that he has never let him down? Dumb, ignorant, muthaf**cker. I hope everyone flames you for your post.
Ryan...its better to not say anything and appear the FOOL, than speak and remove all doubt. You should have just shut your trap.
im soo proud of the celtics!!! Im glad they got there dew and came together!!
wow you still have to talk trash about KG about his hat..let the man live, he is a champion now.
I'm usually not arrogant CakeorDeath, but you can shove it up your A**...hahahaha you sniveling baby.....When the civilized world needs to call 911 guess what country ALWAYS picks up the phone and the pieces...you got it the Good Ole Us of Eh...blinkered twit!
Bob Ryan, Chief NIT WIT and {fill in the blank}
Thanks to Ryan being an ignorant bigot for ruining what was an amazing series and a wonderful show of sportsmanship by all the Celtics. It was a great day to live in Boston, and it was awesome to watch the players celebrate in the Rolling Rally!
Hayduke, so far no one has called you out, but you're just as stupid as Ryan. Good thing the Cs have the class that neither of you have.
KG needs to fix those chicklets...
Just like to say here....Charlie Chaplin wore a little mustache....didn't make him a Hitler.
I'm kickin' a Celtics fishing hat cocked sideways with the brim turned up. Does that make me a Gangsta?
I can understand where cakeordeath is coming from. BUT, I look it as BOSTON CELTICS "NBA" 2008 WORLD CHAMPIONS than the actual WORLD CHAMPIONS. I see them stressing "NBA" in the banner. HEY, Prior to the year 2000 the US Teams had the best players in the world. It's up for debate now but we like to keep the tradition going. Why change the design now.
Go Celtics! Welcome back to where you belong. I am a Celtics fan; have never been a fan of any other basketball team in my 59 years of life. It was great seeing Bill Russell and the other former members looking great and aging with dignity; and you don't need "Just for Men" to do that. Go Celtics!
Paul, you have fulfilled the first piece of your destiny that you knew would happen here. We watched you grow and are so proud of you. You were always disrespected by the national media (because all Boston teams are disrespected) and now you have the last word. As KG says, "what can they say now!!!!!!".
Amherst, MA couldn't be there, but we were glued to the set every game. Posey, you are amazing and rule the courts. KG, no words can describe how much I like you and hope you shed any insecurities or demons you have-keep that smile on forever. Ray, you are a man to be emulated in all aspects of life. Rondo, you too are a superstar.
I want a pic of Doc, Francona, and Bellichek!! Can someone do a photo shoot of our amazing coaches!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
I think that anyone that has something negative to say about this team is simply an idiot and definitely not a true celtics fan! This team has shone nothing but class as they have moved through this amazing season and post season. If you don't believe it go back and watch every single pre, post interview given by EVERY SINGLE player and coach. True celtics fans have been wating for this day for a long LONG time so a word of advice, if you don't have anything positive to contribute and you want to make something this great and amazing turn into a bitch fest about gangs and personal criticisms, please for the love of god, do it away from all of us REAL fans. WE don't want to be brought down by your obvious sad outlook!
Congratulations 2008 World Champion Celtics! I missed the rally at City Hall in 1984. I swore that if the Celtics ever won it all again I would go. Guess what? I went in 1986.
It was AWESOME! The ENTIRE City Hall Plaza was packed. Every inch of it. Every window was filled. The buildings had people shoudler to shoulder on every roof top facing the plaza. There was a HUGE banner to Coach KC Jones that said from the Grateful Dead, "KC Jones you betta watch your speed!" I live in Miami now and I gotta tell you there is NO city that comes together as a true community like Boston does. Obviously the city "aint" perfect but when the teams win championships, the Head of the Charles, the Marathon, the "Life is Good" Pumpkin Carving for Charity happens on the Common,..........it's ALL GOOD!
Congratulations Celtics and the Fans of Boston! Enjoy the rest of your summer.........................Wa-Hoooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Being a part of that Paul/Antoine group of fans, this is great to be able to tell my father that I have my own championship to reminise about. Larry was and always will be the man, but KG, Paul, and Ray (aka Jesus) are the ones that did it for my generation. Thanks Celtics
Garnett has his hat on tilted slightly because his sunglasses are so big. What a bunch of morons who would focus on this.
Ryan and the other idiot, could you be more ignorant? People wear hats cocked to the side, that is how young people like to wear clothing nowadays. I'm rocking a brim to the left right now and i'm far from a gang member. As for looking like he's going to rob a liqour store, what a completly classless fool you are. KG, pierce, allen, and the second unit worked hard all season to give Boston people and celtics fans abroad a taste of glory and you feel it's appropriate to say something totally ignorant about KG. Fools.
Yes, Ryan and the other guy (Haydick) are bigoted morons. Larry showed us what hard work and determination can do. KG brought that message home again 22 years later. He is the perfect example for today's youth - a role model for all to emulate and admire.
Ryan, I bet you wont say that shyt to Kevin's face!!! He is always dressed professionally, sweaters and button ups everywhere he goes and you wanna talk about a hat to the side.
You should be ashamed of yourself-jealous ass dude. I bet you would been ALL OVER HIS D... had he picked you to come on that float with him!
Congrats Celtics!!! It's been a long time coming...
To put the 'World' champion debate to rest: the NBA is now a world league. Even those recent, non-US Olympic teams that have been successful have had NBA talent on their roster. This team may have not have beaten a team exclusively from another country, but it doesn't mean they didn't have to go through the best players in the world to get there.
Hopefully the rest of the comments we see can focus on what really matters here: our beloved team back to the top of all things basketball. This one is sweet, and I'm personally going to cherish it for a long time!
i am the truest fan ever ,i have played on the original boston garden parque floor back in the day anyways garnett, allen pierce, rondo and company .
congratts and may there be plenty more.
smooches
To Robbie, Way to close out the bullshit and get the blogging back on track! GO CELTICS!!
Gotta defend Ryan (a little) - Not the gang violence thing but the role model thing.... Who would you rather your son emulate? Ray Allen or Kevin Garnett? just sayin....
Congrats Celtics
Does anyone else think the Gatorade douche is demeaning? I wish they would ban that from sports.
Fantastic photos as well. Great job. Thank you.
Thank you Celtics! (clap clap clapclapclap) Thank you Celtics! (clap clap clapclapclap) Thank you Celtics! (clap clap clapclapclap)
I have yet to see one of these Big Picture features without some sort of error in the captions. Whassup with that?
These shots just aren't as high quality as most in the series, they're repetitive and several are downright blurry. Probably not as interesting outside of Boston as you'd think.
I think Doc, Tito and Bill should be named the "Big Three" for bringing so much joy to Boston sports fans. You guys RULE!
Wow. I love your posts. This blog continually amazes me in the depth and beauty of visual imagery. Great job collecting images and sharing them with the community/world.
@ "just sayin": Ryan the fat bigot's post was all about atheletes promoting gang violence by their attire. He was basing his ignorant and prejudice statement on KG tilting his cap. Tilting his cap. There's nothing to defend there. Your post on Ray Allen being a better role model than KG is also ignorant and completely baseless.
Hey Ryan, are you some kind of idiot or something? Wearing a hat crooked does not mean one is in a gang. I wear my hat crooked, backwards and every which way but it I am not now, never have been, and never will be affiliated with a gang. You sound like a sheltered, suburban, fool, idiot for making shuch a jackhole statement like that.
No Ones commented on the smokeshow wearing 44, what a hottie. Go Celts.
The Legend Continues!!!!
Yeah, Larry! I'm with you, #44 she's "For Sure"!
Yes, WORLD champions. It's the best league in the world and all the greatest international players come HERE. Jealous?
#44 - MUST be an Ainge Jersey!
World Champs. Nuff said.
Gang-related or not, wearing your hat sideways does look incredibly stupid... here's a hint guys, the part sticking out from your hat is called the "brim", and it's meant to cover your face, which, unless your parents did a whole lot of drugs, is located on the front of your head.
The more important issue, though, is the chick wearing #44. I'd hit it.
Kevin Garnett is completely wonderful, amazing and brilliant.
When interviewed he dedicated his win to his family. He also included the teams that he once was apart of, letting everyone know that he has made it…, he won a championship. Any man who can ever experience what he has for Boston is a legend.
Not to be confused with anything else, especially silly stereotypes.
Hats off to his greatness!
Kevin Garnett...,my hero.
Celtics was cheap out with such a quick and short "rolling rally" compared to the rally the Red Sox and the Patriots have gotten in the past years. I was there and was so disappointed with the time they allowed the champs to dedicate to the fans. It was like a drive by salute or ordering coffee at a Dunkin Donuts drive through windows.
Celtics deserve better than that and Boston owes them a better celebratory honor. Let's not discriminate our teams and athletes. I'm pretty sure we would never do that to the Red Sox. Why treating the Celtics like that its title is less important?!
I have to say... I am a spurs fan but... I watched the finals just to see the celtics smash the lakers because i hate the way kobe acts like he's the sh*t...little did I know watching the finals was going to make me a real celtics FAN !! every game I watched I just became more and more of a fan and i absolutely love this team!! I wish i could have been there for the parade!! I'm all the way in Texas!!
GO CELTICS!!!
@NoTorreUs (#23) - Don't go there, moron, because - as the great Winston Churchill once said - America may usually do the right thing but only after she tries everything else first. Like considering old father Kennedy's pleas to ignore the British requests for help for nearly two years and let Hitler take all of Europe, before being kind enough to join in and sell us all those weapons at very high prices (while blocking Canada's critical Arctic supply routes to the UK).
Anyway, to the topic. I'm with cakeordeath: what's all this "World Championship" crap that the US has with all its main team sports?
Hey- Dorchester Celts fan. You're so right!
That was one lame ass Championship parade. I'm glad to have found someone else who agrees. The front office, ownership, DANNY and players all deserved a much more of a special moment from this City. To start again from where Larry and that "Big Three" left off 22 years ago. That is a special achievement in itself and one we may be blessed enough to enjoy for some years to come.
Only thing I got out of that parade was..... # 44 and that was a day late!! Lol
Epic win thank you Celtics from san fransisco ca !!!
One thing do not forget the best of the LA team Kobe and Gasol and Boston Ray allen,Kevin garnet,Paul peirce, and the good forward,It is a shame that La beated boston 2 times..
Disgustingly pretentious to call the winner of the NBA season "World Champion".
Heu c'est moi ou le gars sur la dernière image à oublié de virer le code barre sur sa casquette?
Hum?
GREAT TO SEE SUCH A HAPPY BUNCH OF AMERICAN ATHLETES THAT DESERVED TO WIN. THIS IS AMERICA
@ #65 - How does it matter whether it's America or American Athlete? Even I am happy to see them but I would be also happy too see any athlete winning after hard work and perseverance!
Cheers for Celtics!
Hey,all Celtics congrates man.....................uuuhhhhhhhhhhh played a tough time.Hey Allen,Rondo,Garnett,Posey,Piercs good job guys...
RYAN, the hat to the left is "representing" to some gangs in chicago(where kg went to high school his senior year *wikipedia) belonging to the "peoples" nation. wearing it to the right would be disrespectful. I challenge anyone to find a picture of kg rocking his hat to the right...... not gonna happen. Can't say for certain, but it definitely makes me suspicious. Gangs are much more prevalent in the NBA than people think.
I think KG is an amazing player and the celtics deserved to win it all. But KG is looking like a gangster to me. No props for that!
congratulations for Celtics!
btw... why "world champions"??!? funny, i thought NBA was only in USA..
Hello to other fellow Iowan's I want you to know our hands are folded in prayer and our hearts go out to each and everyone of you. I just want to let the rest of America know how proud I am of the neighbor's, family, strangers, ministry, Red Cross, FEMA, food lines, volenteers, childern, you name them they came. Parents of the children who are helping those less fortunate, we live in a world that asks whats in it for me. But not one child did I see ask what they were going to be paid for helping each town with their conflict. Parents I'm proud of you, and (AMERICA) I am sooo proud of you also. God Bless Each And Everyone Of You... AMEN..... From Tornado Struck Parkersburg, Iowa 50665
I think that it is high time that we hear less from KG's adoring fans and their foul mouths and hear from the man himself. Kevin, if you are listening, would you weigh in with a word or two to ease the tension in this blog. Last I heard people in this country were still allowed a freedom of speech, even at the expense of stepping on some political toes.
I was out of the country after the first two games, so did not know about the rest of the games. But I saw on the news later, Chazuillle sang a rap song that Koby Bryant couldn't win a championship without his help. He used profanity in the lyrics, so his honorary deputyship in some town was stripped... So that was the first inkling that that the Lakers had been beaten. I was elated. I remember being electrified by Byrd's playing, and here we go again. The look on Phil Jackson's face in the second snapshot is priceless.
Anyway, congratulations to the Celtics, and Kevin- if you are listening- can you say a few words to calm these animals?
I am soooooooooooo happy they won!!!!!!!! The pictures are great. Doc Rivers sure knows how to get cooled off. LOL
CELTICS ROCKS!!!!
GREEN MINDED RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
world peace.. (~_^)
there the BEST TEAMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boston is totally awesome. I love Boston Celtics. GO BOSTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Mis mas sinceras felicitaciones al equipo Celtics NBA Boston. Los amo.
Sigan adelante que Dios siempre les ilumina el camino.
Un saludo cordial desde Barinas - Venezuela.
The reason for the *World* Champions, I think, is because of the Toronto Raptors being in Canada, or maybe because there are a lot of international players in the league...but i dont know
Ryan, you're really stupid. Just because someone wears their hat like that doesn't make them gang affiliated.
hahahahhahah lakers suck celtics rock HAHAHA
i like your time i love u guys
"King James" has a big challenge ahead of him!
