A Quick Note
Just a short note from the author to A) say thank you to all of those who have given such great feedback and participation, and B) set expectations.
The Big Picture is still a very new blog, and even though the posting frequency is close to daily right now, that's mostly due to the backlog of ideas I've had sitting in my head. Expect the frequency of posts to slow down in a while - my goal is 2-3 posts per week eventually. Remember, we're trying for quality, not quantity.
And thanks again for the response - it's been fantastic.

Alan, this site is great. It was brought to my attention by Jason Kottke's blog. I have sent a link to many, many people already. It's about time we have great photography (and at a decent size) with news to make a greater impact. Keep up the great work.
Your blog is definitelly the best I've seen since a while and I saw a lot.
Great job!
Fantastic blog and images, Alan. Congratulations.
Thanks for a great blog, the images here are truly amazing. I'm glad I stumbled across it! :-)
The site is fantastic. Great job.
I think that the frequency you are suggesting is perfect.
I tend to unsubscribe from bloggers that post 10 times a day.
Really great idea and presentation, thanks!
i really like the format of seeing the pics with captions. no lengthy editorials. sticks to the old saying...
a picture is worth a thousand words
This blog has intense potential. Thank you for creating it. It brings the photo enthusiast, the envionmentalist, the globetrottrer, and many other facets of our collective personalities together. Thanks to kottke.org for posting a link to this blog.
This is the best idea a news organization has had regarding online journalism in a very long while.
Thank you.
This is a sure thing. I hope you and the Globe will keep this up for some time to come.
Thanks for a gem on the net!
Alan, I hope this project is as rewarding for you to curate as it is entertaining and moving for me as a reader. Keep up the good work!
PS I found your blog via @photojojo on twitter
Pobre vaquita!! Tambien la gente!! Hermosas vistas, presentan bien la realidad.
Fantastic project, photos on news websites get a raw deal, partly due to the setup of the sites themselves, but this is an example of how powerful images are. Keep up the good work
So obvious and so simple, why didn't someone do it before? Given the amount of photos produced every day, the availability of enough bandwidth, why isn't this format already ubiquitous at newspapers? Wonderful site for students of all ages, too.
On a practical level, I wonder how it'll look once you have to integrate advertising....
A wonderful implementation, lavish and simple, just right!
really great job
Alan, these images are fantastic, it's refreshing to see such high quality pictures of news events.
The one suggestion I would make to the site overall is giving us the ability to link to particular pictures within a story.
I would like to be able to link to the pictures of lightning over the Chaitén eruption, but I want to link to the picture within the story page so anyone following the link can easily see the other pictures on that page, and read about the story. At the moment, I have to link to the image directly so they don't get the opportunity to view the other images or stories.
And here theare is a "Big" quality. Great work. :-)

A friend lead me to this place and I really love it. The images shown here are wonderful. They really inspire. I will definitely return...
not sure how i ended up here, but i'm very glad i did. the blog is a great concept and presented in a very beautiful and easy to browse manner. keep it going!
very provoking.. thank you
I damn near started crying when I found this site. It really helps me to make a connection to my world. The pictures are truly amazing and the large format is what is needed. Takes me "there" far better than the standard photos and tells me the "story" that words can never do. Thank you
I stumbled upon this blog a couple days ago.
I have to say, what a breath of fresh air. High quality photography with really interesting articles. This blog to other blogs is like National Geographic to other magazines.
Keep up the great work. Can't wait for new updates.
This blog is an excellent portrayal of world events. I'd like to see it offered by the Boston Globe through a daily email showing your updates.
Thank you for sharing such fantastic pictures with this quality, and for the news embedded, this is very instructive, please keep on the good work!
This is such a great idea. With the bandwith and screen size available to so many people these days this is a no-brainer. I'm sure there are tons of great images that never gets to be published, sites like this would a great "dump" for all news agencies.
Can someone PLEASE give me some of these photographers emails. I am an aspiring photojournalist and I literally could not close my jaw after viewing this blog. Absolutely amazing photography.
This site is so wonderful. I come back and check for updates everyday because I don't want to go a day without seeing these amazing pictures. The size of the pictures if perfect. It really gets you included in the picture. Almost like you can feel the story with the people. I have a suggestion for a story. I'm not sure if you are taking suggestions or not, so here it is:
My family is from Iowa (and I have many family members living there now) and I am very concerned about the flooding that is going on there right now. I haven't gotten a chance to see any good pictures from Iowa to see just how bad it is up there. I think that seeing it on this site would help me, and others, understand how bad it is getting in the Midwest.
Thanks, eh - glorious!
Amazing stuff.. I just want to say thank you. And keep up the good work.
Just wanted to join the chorus and let you know that I really enjoy this blog.
Beautiful and provoking, thank you.
That post frequency would be awesome! We like quality too, so I think we can agree on that ;-)
Such a very informative way for people to see what is going on in the world around us. A friend e-mailed me your Saturn and its moons. I was so impressed that I went forward and backward to see all of your great works. Thank you so much, and I have put this in my favorites so I can see more of your work as you post it.
I have enjoyed checking in on this photo blog from time to time. The quality and large size of the photos is fantastic!
