Hurricanes, as seen from orbit

Hurricane Ike just rolled across Cuba, and soaked parts of Haiti - both regions still reeling from recent Hurricane Gustav. Ike appears to be weakening now, but is headed tward the Gulf Coast of the U.S., and may yet strengthen. The crew aboard the International Space Station was able to take a photo of Ike from 220 miles overhead last Thursday - one in a long series of great NASA photographs of hurricanes from space. Here are some of the best, from the past several years. (25 photos total)

Hurricane Ike was still a Category 4 storm on the morning of Sept. 4 when this photo was taken from the International Space Station's vantage point of 220 miles above the Earth. The season's seventh named storm was churning west-northwestward through the mid-Atlantic Ocean sporting winds of 120 nautical miles per hour with gusts to 145. A nadir view from the Space Shuttle Atlantis on Sept. 18th, 2006 gives a good look at the eye of Hurricane Gordon. At the time the photo was taken, with a digital still camera eqipped with a 28mm lens, the center of Gordon was near 37.5 north latitude and 46.4 west longitude moving west-northwest. The sustained winds were at 80 nautical miles per hour with gusts to 95 nautical miles per hour. (NASA) #

On Sept. 12th, 2003, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument onboard NASA's Terra satellite captured this true-color image of Hurricane Isabel northeast of the Lesser Antilles Islands. This view of Hurricane Felix was taken from the Earth-orbiting International Space Station (ISS) by an Expedition 15 crewmember using a digital still camera equipped with a 28-70 mm lens set at 28 mm focal length on Sept. 3, 2007 at 11:38:29 GMT. The ISS was located at the nadir point of 16.0 degrees north latitude and 84.0 degrees west longitude nearly over the coast of eastern Honduras when this image was taken. The crew of the ISS acquired this excellent oblique photo of the storm just as it made landfall on the southern Brazilian state of Catarina (the storm has been unofficially dubbed "Hurricane Catarina"). This image of Hurricane Wilma was taken at 8:23 a.m. CDT Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005 by the crew aboard NASA's international space station as the complex flew 222 miles above the storm. At the time, Wilma was the strongest Atlantic hurricane in history, with winds near 175 miles per hour. The storm was located in the Caribbean Sea, 340 miles southeast of Cozumel, Mexico. (NASA) #

While not a true hurricane, this image from September 4, 2003 shows a beautifully-formed low-pressure system swirling off the southeastern coast of Greenland, illustrating the maxim that "nature abhors a vacuum." The vacuum in this case was a region of low atmospheric pressure. In order to fill this void, air from a nearby high-pressure system moves in, in this case bringing clouds along for the ride. Essas fotos mostram que o c�u, a terra, e tudo que nela h�, n�o criado por obra do acaso, mas sim pelas m�os de algu�m que � realmente o Todo Poderoso e sabe exatamente que estava fazendo. Deus. O �nico digno de ser adorado. Criador de tudo de bom que vemos e outras coisas que ainda n�o conhecemos (na natureza, por exemplo, nas profundezas dos mares e da terra. E nas alturas, no c�u.) e provavelmente um dia veremos. Muito lindo tudo que Ele criou.

Realmente as fotos s�o otimas mas pq n�o tem nenhuma estrela de fundo ou planetas so aparece a lua em uma das fotos e ainda pela metade a lua pela metade ateh entendo mais cade as estrelas elas tem luz propria deveriam aparecer no fundo ou n�o alguem pode me responder isso ??

Sob duas �ticas: s�o imagens, n�o digo belas, mas fascinantes que mostram o impressionante poder imponente da natureza sobre os elementos. E s�o �bviamente catastr�ficas para aqueles que cruzar o caminho desses gigantes. Mas que agu�a a curiosidade, pelo menos a minha, agu�a.

A natureza esta cobrando o que estamos fazendo com ela,apesar de sempre ter existido os fenomenos naturais eles et�o acontecendo cada vez mais frequentes e catrastr�ficos. De 20 anos para c� houve um aumento de 45% destefenmenos.

Infelismente n�o vejo nada de maravilhoso nisso. A imagem pode ser impressionante, mas isso prova o desequilibrio que n�s, seres humanos provocamos em nosso planeta, devido a satura��o dos recursos naturais, e do impacto ambiental causado por esse "desenvolvimento" que � alimentado pelo consumismo. E j� que Deus esta sendo citado nesta hist�ria, tenho certeza que ele n�o quer que esses acontecimentos aconte�a, porque os unicos afetados com essas movimenta��es da natureza � o proprio ser humano

Imagens fantasticas, gra�as a ciencia que hoje consegue mostrar os mais belos fenomenos da natureza, acredito que essas e outras coisar sempre existtram. O universo sempre foi uma mae criadora e transformadora de tudo o que existe na naturaza. Todos nos usamos recursos naturais, isso se ta porque precisamos cada vez mais recursos para sustentar tantas almas que habitam essa terra maravilhosa, onde o homens tem a oportunidade de assistir tudo que Deus criou.

Nao vejo nada fascinante, eu vejo a morte, n�o vejo nada maravilhoso, vejo o sofrimento. E entendo que as aguas que esses ventos trazem nada mais s�o do que as l�grimas dos que sofrem na pele a pass�gem de cada fura��o. N�s so vemos o que queremos ver, ou o que nos � imposto a ver. A beleza que est� estampada nessas fotos � a mesma que a m�dia e os poderosos nos for�am a ver quando querem praticar alguma atrocidade. Para tudo se tem uma justificativa, temos que ser realista, colocar os p�s no ch�o e perceber que por traz de uma aparente beleza pode existir uma vers�o aterrorizante que quando chegar ao nosso encontro n�o ser� nada bonito ou maravilhoso. � o velho ditado pimenta nos olhos dos outros n�o arde. Ah!!! vamos deixar Deus fora disso, chamar seu santo nome para qualquer fen�meno natural e dizer que aquilo o representa, � no m�nimo confundir a criatura com o criador.

Realmente e muito bonito, mas tudo isto tem um pre�o, pre�o este que a humanidade vai ter que pagar, toda a evolu��o sem a vis�o de DEUS, ou seja devemos consultar o dono da cria��o, a biblia diz que toda a terra e c�u e sua plenitude e do senhor DEUS, ent�o o que devemos fazer diante de uma ordem dessa!. A Biblia diz que Pilatos disse ao SENHOR JESUS voce sabia que eu tenho poder de livra-lo ou de condena-lo, JESUS responde a ele, voce n�o teria poder nehum se do C�u n�o foste enviado tal ordem, o que JESUS quis dizer, n�s podemos ser muito intiligentes construtores, inventores, grandes Homens reconhecidos mundialmente, mas se n�o formos reconhecidos por DEUS, nosso esfor�o e meramente desconhecido do nosso DEUS, de forma que toda essa

A humanidade est� em uma panela de press�o a ponto de explodir, devido a gan�ncia de homens poderosos e at� mesmo dos n�o poderosos, pois est�o cheios de maldade e n�o se preocupam com o pr�ximo.

Observando as escrituras sagradas vemos, que, a mais de 2000 anos atr�s os evangelhos nos revela o cora��o do homem do futuro ou melhor de hoje, colocando-se como "amantes de si mesmos" sem nenhum compromisso com o que est� em sua volta (Mateus 23:28 Assim tamb�m v�s exteriormente pareceis justos aos homens, mas interiormente estais cheios de hipocrisia e de iniq�idade).

Deixaram de fazer o que era certo diante de Deus afastando-se dele e multiplicou-se a iniquidade (Mateus 24:12 E, por se multiplicar a iniq�idade, o amor de muitos esfriar�). Por esse e outros pecados o homem est� sujeito a perder definitivamente a comunh�o com Deus. E ele vos responder�: "Digo-vos que n�o sei de onde v�s sois; apartai-vos de mim, v�s todos os que praticais a iniq�idade". Lucas 13:27.

Existe o tempo da remiss�o de total a transgress�o, e esse tempo � AGORA!
Como? Somente voltando para DEUS atrav�s de CRISTO JESUS.

Realmente � impressionante.
Como ja foi dito, � terrivel saber que ainda existem muitas pessoas que preferem acreditar que tudo surgiu de uma explos�o. Que fenomeno � esse que pode criar tantas coisa t�o magn�ficas? Ignorantes e incredulos que se acham inteligentes demais para querer dar uma explica��o a algo t�o perfeito, ser� possivel que vcs n�o conseguem ver que ha uma for�a maior, algo celestial, poderoso ao qual criou tudo que existe, inclusive vc. Acredite Deus existe, e vc n�o precisa o ver para crer, basta vc querer e poder� o sentir. Ele � como o vento, vc n�o v�, mas sente. Se quiser fa�a prova dele, pois ele n�o falha. I live in Houston but I was ok and with out power for 1 day. My sister had devastating danmage to her home. The vents on her roof were torn off letting water fill her attic. Only time before the ceiling cam down in the living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 kids rooms, and the garage. My sister and her family were not there but the neighbors got together and patched what they could before her family came back to find the damage.

S� fico indignado com essa prega��o desenfreada aqui. At� pensei estar em um site religioso, mas me certiquei que aqui � o site do jornal The Boston.

E concordo com o Kevin que postou acima, o mundo s� regride com essa prega��o sem pudor, com essa falta de respeito para com a liberdade de escolha que temos de N�O seguir essas 'id�ias'. Pior � que pessoas desse tipo podem falar o quanto quiserem de deus, onde quiserem, em trens, �nibus, o lugar que for, se uma pessoa vai contra esse tipo de conduta e vai discutir porque n�o quer ficar lendo ou ouvindo prega��o alheia, esses j� falam que � persegui��o religiosa ou coisa parecisa. Persegui��o � o que eles fazem com esse radicalismo absurdo, essa falta de no��o de que cada um tem seu espa�o e que esse espa�o deve ser respeitado.

I live in MagnoliaTexas, After 15 days with no power and alot of clean up ahead, We still feel blessed to have our belongs and health in tack. We slept in the closet with our 4 dogs the morning of the storm. I have never been so scared. I heard our large oak in front go down, I heard my neighbors fence getting pulled apart. The noise of the storm was so loud. hours later in the eye of the storm we let our dogs out and found a baby squirrel, we bottle feed him for 8 days, but when I had to go back to work he pasted on. We will never forget rocky or Ike.

I got these from a friend of mine in Florida and they are keepers. I'm trying to talk him into sending me some color pics such as some of these are. I collect satellite images of hurricanes and I get to add these to my collection
