The world needs to go back to the future and resettle the Arab refugees now living in Gaza and the West Bank. The best idea would be to settle them in the abundant room available in the various Arab lands around them. Then the issues of the exact boundaries of Israel could be settled with existing Arab states as soon as those states recognize Israel.
At present we are trapped by old thinking that no longer has the support it used to enjoy. In the past the Arabs always had a powerful patron. For most of my life it was the Soviet Union. Prior to that they were, for the most part, allied with Hitler and/or Britain. Now the Arabs still have some support from Russia, but Russia is not very strong itself. What strength it has comes from the same weapon that the Arabs use…the oil (and gas) weapon.
Ironically, the seemingly ardent Republican supporters of Israeli unwittingly strengthened the oil weapon for years by refusing to admit that the oil era is just about over. Interestingly, Barack Obama “gets it.” As he has said in various statements, “Our dependence on foreign oil empowers authoritarian governments.” That is spot on!
Now perhaps Obama also has more sympathy for the Islamic world than the Republicans did. But it is good that he does. We should all have sympathy for them. I do too. A settlement of hostilities is more to the benefit of the Arabs than to the Israelis. But the main thing is that the world is moving away from oil. The one-state solution with the refugees dumped into Israel is not even on the table. It never was. The solutions start with the basic assumption that Israel continues to control its borders and its territory. The demographic issues have been wildly exaggerated (unless Israel were to take in a couple million Arab/Muslim refugees). Israel will remain with a Jewish majority indefintely. If Israel wished, it could increase its Jewish majority simply by offering Israeli citizenship and voting rights to all bona fide Jews in the world, regardless of whether they “make aliyah” to Israel. In fact, in some form, perhaps with an economic committment, that should be a option for Diaspora Jews who want to activate their Israeli citizenship rights but who are not able to settle in Israeli. But that’s up to Israeli, not up to me or anyone else. Also, Israel could choose to admit more of the numerous Africans who have Israeli ancestery. These are great people and they would make great citizens. I think that will be done in due time. Also, increasing European anti-Semitism may well drive large numbers of young European Jews to Israel. But suffice it to say, Israel will remain strong and intact.
The areas around Israel can, in a sense, do what they want. It is not up to Israel to make these so-called “Palestinians” into a country. The best bet for the "Palestinians" would be to leave the areas that Israel now owns, having won them in battle and be reabsorbed back into the Arab nations. The idea of a so-called additional “Palestinian” nation is a bad idea. But if the refugees could actually get it together and form such a nation, then Israel has been willing to cede them the land. So far they have not even come close.
Regardless of whether all the entities around Israel are actual nations or whether some of them, such as the Palestinian areas, are simply unincorporated terrorist enclaves, Israel can treat them as external nations and respond to threats appropriately. Israel's recent response was entirely appropriate though probably too limited and measured. Future responses may be stronger.

The best and the simplest answer to this problem would be for the Arab states to recognize Israel and take in the refugees. Time is running out for the Arabs. Israel has all the time in the world.

There is such a lack of understanding of the history and present situation that these people should be ashamed to even post anything. Israel, like any other nation has the right and I believe the duty to protect its citizens. Is it ideal that Gaza is being attacked? No. Is it necessary? Ask the parents of some of the civilians killed by rockets over the past 8 years in Israeli territories...The meek unfortunately will not inherit the earth and Israel would be stupid and irresponsible to allow the country to become a nation of martyrs . Do you know that both Israel and Hamas are accused of violating the international rules of war and will probably be tried in International Criminal Court? To me however, the solution would be sinple. Gaza should stop its terrorist antics and watch how long it will take for these violent acts to stop. The problem is that this is a RATIONAL solution. Reading all the comments above, rationality is not the factor that governs Palestinians' actions. Rather it is hatred, dogmatism and failure to see the truth. Israel and Gaza have been in cease fire many times. Each time Gaza interrupts the cease fire with its violence and hatred. The Palestinians will not be satisfied until Israel is obliterated and unfortunately all of Israel's neighbouring states take the same position. There does not seem to be an end in sight and unfortunately the problems have become so widespread and complex that it is impossible to contain the terrorism taking place in Israel and indeed, across the world.

I think the solution are..

It is not only Gaza's fault. Their hatred and want for revenge is very understandable, considering the conditions that they live in and the oppression that they experience on a daily basis. They witness their family members and friends killed. How would you explain to a child of maybe 12 years that yes, they just saw their brother and father shot, but its okay, dont worry. I knonw all religion have good intention in teaching human doing good deeds. Whether is the Jews, Christians Islam, Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist ect..... Quran has its essence of life as well. Same as the Jews. Its the humans that being misguided or blinded by ancestry anger and avenges. For Isrealis and Palestinians, both parties have their own reasons on attacking each other. My spouse is an Isrealis and my best friend is a palestinian. I hear different story from both sides n come to a verdict that in actual, its all because of encestry hatered and anger. By the way, my spouse and my best friend, they respect each other very well. Answering to Agam 909 vs Jonathan Sagir, my spouse was in one of the bar in Isreal, fun was over time to go home. The moment he walked out just few metres away, a Palastinian suiside bomber just exploded in the bar and killed many people. A few of them was his buddies. Can you Agam909 feel for that? If you were in his shoes, can you feel the dispair and anger? None of us know who started the war. Like everybody said, ''according to the history''. I lived in my country for more than 25 years, I have never met any Israelis nor Jews before until i got out from my country. Then I realised, a lot of medias and news were discouraging and to hate Israel and Jews. I use to think Israelis are the terrorist instead. Do you see where I am coming from? Have you even thought of why Palestanian kids are holding guns and only Israelis adults are holding guns. Can you see the point in it? Another example, when my spouse was a kid, every other day his mother would wake him up in the middle of the night and panicly urging the children to run into their home underground hide out with face mask; just because some stupid Palestanian fire a bomb from the back yard with their kids in the house. Then on Israel side? When the computer detacted the source of the bomb, they reply a bomb to the Palestinian, that's how when the news come out, ''O ISRAEL JUST BOMBED A PALESTINE HOME LAST NIGHT. 4 KIDS DIED AND 3 ADULTS BADLY INJURED''. Now, do you see the picture? In fact, when you come to think about it, a country that is smaller than New Jersey and surounded by enemy neighbours and still standing strong untill today! There must be reasons behind it. You could comment that Israel bully the weak ones like Palestine, would you think why is not Palestine being strong instead. What I am trying to say is, to stop the war its not just about both sides governments calling for peace, they also need to consider educating their people.
I am sure you know how to compare the big city people and village people in your own region right? Because the big city people are well exposed and educated coupled with ambitious, aggressiveness and fight to become a CEO one day. Now, in this case do you blame the big city people? Or you would pity at the village people? Both sides nationwide have to arrive at certain level to be on par then there might be solution. Besides, looking at the advancement of Israel, to take out the Palestine land is a piece of cake. Question is why that land is still remaining?

I am not Israeli or Palestanian, I live in the US, but I would just like to mention the fact that Gaza started bombing Sderot, a Israel city in 2000. The Hamas people fired rockets near schools and stuff, so Israel, with no intent to hurt anyone, let it go on. Israel, on the other hand only starteed attacking in '08 and will cease fire the moment Hamas ceases fire. All Gaza needs to do is stop attacking, not even surrender, and all this will stop.

when we live comfortably in our mansions,we fail to reflect on those less fortunate.there are people out there who don't have a roof to sleep under,people who would be overjoyed to find the morsel of food we throw away,people who would be so overjoyed to get any new clothing,we tend to forget about the miseries of those people.if we all work together,we can somehow,God willingly,make their lives better.we talk a lot and we don't act.in india,one half of the people suffer extreme poverty whereas the other half live in luxury,but the case of the Palestinian people are different,they were people who had their homes,families,one evening they'd all be sitting together for a meal,when suddenly everything is lost,they become homeless in matter of seconds,children are orphaned,women are widowed,just a minute ago they were a happy family enjoying a great meal,all their dreams shattered in a few moments.i'm not trying to justify the acts of Palestinian militants who kill the children and innocent from Israel,what they do is wrong.but if one man from Israel is killed,hundred more from Palestine are killed.Our Prophet when he migrated to Madina to escape from the torture he suffered from his people,it was with the acceptance of their people,he didnot conquer by force,he conquered their hearts,what he did was completely different from what the Israelis are doing now.it is time for all of them to stop and make peace.

These Killings should stop. Why is it that everyday young children, mothers and civilians are being killed once they step outside their doors. Why is this going on anyway just because of some people saying they don’t believe Israel should exists and they want to get rid of it. Well Israel very much does exist and it is not going anywhere. Before it was just the Palestinians to blame but now Israel’s and the Palestinians are to blame they are both at fault and should just stop fighting two wrongs do not make a right but two right do they should just stop killing each other and get along. Innocent people should never have to be afraid of going outside their homes.
