The Inauguration of President Barack Obama

Yesterday was a historic day. On January 20th, 2009, Barack H. Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America - the first African-American ever to hold the office of U.S. Commander-in-Chief. The event was witnessed by well over one million attendees in chilly Washington D.C., and by many millions more through coverage on television and the Internet. Collected here are photographs of the event, the participants, and some of the witnesses around the world. (48 photos total)

These pictures are invaluable as they capture the world's belief that our 44th President is indeed the man for the job. President Obama is the total package. His knowledge, objectiveness and patriotism is what, not only our country needs but what the world needs to help the USA regain our place as the world's superpower. I pray for his safety and ask you to do the same. For those who do not share the majority opinion that he is the man for the job, please give him a chance and do not be persuaded by those who are haters just because.......

Americans who believe in America have spoken. The ignorence of the past have been defeated. Any sane human being should understand, We are somebody while we can breath. All human being have the right for a descent life. Proverty, inequality, injustice can't be a revelation. Human being are responsible for the safe keeping of the globe. Greed and jealousy are the cancer of humanity. We must come to reality to understand there is one God, one human race, of course 30,000 religions. Love and respect for each other is the recipe for a peaceful world. .Yes,. President Obama understands...

"Somebody said it couldn't be done, but he with a chuckle replied, "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one to say so til he tried. So he buckled right in, with a trace of a grin on his face, if he worried he hid it. And he started to sing as he tackled the thing that couldn't be done and he did it. Author unknown

Congratulations President and Mrs. Obama! You are a living testament to the meaning of the quotation above that I learned in elementary school in the early fifties segregated Washington Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama. I am so thankful that I lived long enough to see this great day in history. You will be successful if you place God first in all of your decision making. Maybe one day I will have the pleasure of meeting you in person. I pray so, if it be God's will.

Dear Barack - You and my son share the same name (almost - he is Barak) and so I guess I just had to vote for you. Kidding aside, please do not give in to Wall Street and the insurance giants. Too much of your current approach is business as usual with some regulation and supervision of the same tired financial policies. Don't give up on public medical care. Stop speaking of "health insurance" and start speaking of "health-care". I know you can't change all things at once without making political enemies, but there needs to be more backbone in your approach to finance, health-care and public sector job creation on green energy, public transportation etc. We do need a new new deal. To the prior commenter who fears that socialism will turn us all into serfs, how much more like serfs can we be than we already are under the Reagonistic regime (brought to a final head by Cheney/Bush) of all money being sucked up to the "lords of the manor". If only you really WERE a democratic socialist. How right-wing and reactionary must anyone be to believe that you are a socialist by any definition. I guess these Limbaugh-indoctrinated imbeciles don't own dictionaries. You are by any standard a "centrist" politician, sometimes to the left and sometimes to the right of that center. Very right of center
has gotten us to where we are today. Please move a hair to the left and allow some real democracy to freshen our social contract. Most of the countries in the world are capitalist (oh, we won!!! - how childish), and most of these are not democracies. There's no inherent co-relation between capitalism and democracy (see Saudi Arabia, etc). There's no inherent co-relation between socialism and dictatorship (see Allende's Chile - destroyed by the U.S., and late 1960's Czechoslovakia - destroyed by the U.S.S.R.). I have no illusions about Chavez' Venezuela, more Peronista than socialist. Please be the president you promised to be - an enlightened progressive, democratic capitalist. That means regulation, serious public sector involvement fully partnered with the private sector (rather than its handmaiden).

What a glorious day for the world to see that color did not play a part in this glorious occasion. I wish people of all races would get together more often and the world would be so much better if we just care, listen to, communicate a little more with each other.

From a sociological perceptive people from all races would better understand each other if we get to know that person a little better be it their religion, lifestyle, culture. If we can all get together for one day why can't we do it more often.

Dear President & Michelle Obama;
This is a love letter to you both and to your two lovely daughters, Malia & Sasha. It is to tell you how blessed I feel to have lived long enough to see this moment in time.
August 18th, I became 69 years old. Your election on November 4th, 2008, (on my youngest brother's birthday) and your enaugeration service on January 20th, are the best birthday presents I have ever had. (BTW my 203 year old (3/29/09) cousin is elated & proud).
Those of us born in the sixties can well appreciate this blessing that can never be erased from history; that can never be forgotten; that can only be an encouragement to all races and nationalities as a moment in time worth waiting for. We applaud the steps you took in you life as a young man that led you to be able bring the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King to life.
We thank him and others gone on like Rosa Parks, who sacrificed to help us to get to this moment in time.
My prayer is that all will join in and rejoice at this victory for ALL citizens of these United States of America. My prayer is that you will continue to be the Christian that God made you in your early twenties, that you continue to worship and praise Him. My mother and grandparents were not here to see this day, but someday when my turn comes i'll tell them what a wonder man you are and what an outstanding couple you and Mrs. Obama make. I am absolutely very proud of your accomplishments. I believe this country needed a new direction a long time ago and you are the person to take us there. You have shown tremendous professionalism, great character, respect and dignity. I pray that you prove to the world that a black man knows how to make something brand new, out of something very old. With your strong woman at your side and the world behind you, YES WE CAN!!!!!

Obama's election has demonstrated the fact that despite all odds United State election remain a genuine expression of people's will. This is the time Africans need to change their orientation and pave way for elections that will be producing an authentic popular representation that will usher in a firm structure of democracy in the continent.

Today is my first time to see Obama's inauguration ceremony pictures, its really God's plan.what a crowd.

Sometimes in the push and shove of politics, in the ceaseless commentary by pundits, in the debates over the need for health care reform, in the anxiety over the economy, and the continuing paid of those who are unemployed or who no longer count as unemployed because they have given up, I forget that Barack Obama has been President for less than nine months, and that he chose to take on the Herculean task of motivating our country to live up to its promise.

These pictures reminded me of what incredible moments to be alive - to see the election and inauguration of Barack Obama and to welcome his delightful family to the White House.

Nobody promised the road would be easy, and in his inaugural address, he made it clear we would all have to work to turn things around.

Dear President Obama,
After your outstanding speech last night, September 9, 2009, I looked back at your inauguration pictures and am reminded of the thrill of that day. I and all members of my family are your fans, your admirers. The heart of your domestic program is health insurance reform. Last night you gave an excellent, rational, thoughtful, clear, but also emotional summary of your ideas on this subject. It renewed my faith that you will get this passed through the Congress. It was uplifting to see the many enthusiastic faces in the crowd; I know it will succeed including some form of the public option which we desperately need. Three weeks ago I mailed you my husband's article in our paper expressing faith in your judgment. We know you can do it, THANK YOU for your courage and determination.

The bloom is off this rose... while he had a great opportunity to move to the middle and do great things, he has instead choosen to take a hard core psrtisan line to fundamentally wipe away our individuals freedoms in exchange for new government mandated entitlements and handouts. This was not the change America wanted and he has mistaken the core values of the amrican people, a desire for freedom and opportunity, not entitlements and handouts, all funded by excessive taxation. How much is enough? It is apparent no about of money can satisfy this out of control government. When interest rates return to the 15% to 20% they were under Jimmy Carter we will go bankrupt under this mountain of debt.

we are the majority now. dont let the noise machine from the 25% that hate this man for his race bring you down. fight the foxnation, support the pres. and we will get the country back for the middle class, and not the 1%, who dont need any more money.....

The quickest way to solve a problem , is on your knees. !
Keep God 1st , and he will see you through.
Seek the Kingdom of God, and all things your heart desire
will be added to you. Daniel in the Bible prayed 3 times a Day. You can do it , (Yes we Can), We are praying for the Obama Family and his administration. Remember, you can do all things through GOD. He will give you the ability to conquer all the giants , just like David defeated Goliath. Just PRAY -read the word and the word will read you-.

Dear President Obama and family,
1st, I'd like to congratulate you on your Presidential victory and your Nobel Peace Prize Award. My family and I traveled to Washington, DC on Jan. 20th to watch your inauguration. Sure, we were way in the back, but we didn't care! We were there!!! Four generations strong, witnessed history! Thank you for allowing my grandson to know, if he believes, he can acheive.
Through out the campaign, no matter what was happening, slow and steady was the words of the day. I know you have your work cut out for you, but if you keep God first in you life, you will succeed. We pray for you and your family always. May God continue to bless and keep you.

God Bless America and your family Mr. President. Keep up the good work and don't let people influence your decisions on what is best for America. I have lost my job in October 2008 but found another one and have gone back to school at age 47. It is my hope that you will soon do something towards education costs so that more Americans can go back to school or keep going for a higher degree. Thank you! Minnesota

Im so happy that Obama became the 44th President of the United States. I think this is good because he can make a huge difference in the soceity we are living in now. I can truly say that im glad as we Americans, well most of us, has chosen to let Barack Obama be our President. Say, how bout we try something different. And we did. This is a very historical moment in the life of most americans and some it just dont mean a thing to, but to me it means alot. I pray that God BLESS him and his family, and let him make the right decisions for America. In everything THANKS be to GOD !!!!!
