The executive sous chef at one of the city's swankiest restaurants is heading to Posto in Davis Square. A rep for Posto tells us that Chef Wyatt Macguire, once the executive sous chef at Barbara Lynch's four-star Menton, is now executive chef at Posto. Meanwhile, the Alpine Restaurant Group (which runs Posto and sister restaurant, Davis Square's Painted Burro) has hired Menton's former general manager Alec Riveros as operations director. Does this mean that the date-night-ish Posto is taking a turn for the posh?
It seems like an effort by owner Joseph Cassinelli to brand Posto as more than just a pizzeria. (And it's a very good one: It's New Englandís first Verace Pizza Napoletana certified pizzeria, a testament to its Neapolitan authenticity.)
With the lineup change comes new focus on menu items beyond pie: Look for an expanded selection of antipasti, handmade pastas, and wood-fired entrees, plus an enhanced cocktail program with refreshing tipples like pitchers of Aperol Spritz and housemade limoncello. The new menu debuts next week.
Meanwhile, just down the street, the Painted Burro recently expanded to add Burro Bar, an adjacent space selling roughly 100 tequilas. There's also a diet-destructing weekend brunch, the centerpiece of which is a Yucatan-style meatloaf topped with fried eggs (perfect for curing hangovers, though not so much during bathing suit season).
