A rep for El Centro, the popular South End restaurant, confirms some spicy news: A Brookline location, called El Centro Dos, will open this weekend. Owner Allan Rodriguez, who grew up in Sonora, says that "the Boston area has a lot of 'quote un-quote' authentic Mexican restaurants, but they aren’t the type of restaurants you find in Mexico." Fighting words! Almost all of the recipes, and the restaurant's artwork, have been sourced from his many trips to Mexico. You can get a feel for the types of dishes at the Brookline spot by checking out the current South End menu, but it's important to note that this location, ahem, has a full bar. To that end, expect a rotating selection of sangrias, spicy margaritas, and micheladas. El Centro Dos is at 236 Washington St., Brookline.
Update: A rep tells us that opening plans have been slightly delayed; look for an opening on or around June 21.
