Our upcoming Intimate Evening Talks event will feature talks from an impressive lineup of speakers: education reformers, musicians, designers, storytellers, medical revolutionaries, and champions of industry…

But the most interesting part of the event?  The people in the audience.

At TEDxBeaconStreet, we ask everyone to share a Fun Fact about themselves.  We’re always in awe of the diverse, remarkable and unexpected things you share with us.

A selection of Fun Facts from our March 20th audience:

  • Back in the day, I was a two-time U.S. Junior National Fencing Champion.
  • 20 years in the hedge fund business – 30 years a Buddhist.
  • I like to go bog jumping!
  • Assisting with research on how pornography affects relationships among youth.
  • I burned up my first 555 timer chip when I was in high school in 1981.
  • I can float vertically in the water without moving.
  • I don’t go to the movie theaters. I don’t own a television set. No Hulu, no Netflix. I don’t even subscribe to home internet service. I like to hear other people’s ideas and stories, just not through the screen.
  • I grew up in Eastern Germany – a country that does not exist anymore.
  • I made a Mother’s Day rap album when I was 7.
  • I was once a touring puppeteer and aficionado of Argentine tango.
  • I play in a Ukelele girl band called the Ukeladies!
  • I read particle physics books for fun.
  • I used to walk over ten feet of hot coals every summer from high school until college.
  • I recently retired after almost 40 years in Internal Medicine.
  • Sleep before learning new information determines whether you will retain any of the material. I proved this!
  • I’m one of the very few American-Pakistani Muslims in the field of communications.
  • I’m really good at managing groups of people I have never met.
  • My favorite way to commute is on inline skates.
  • My first job was counting beavers from space.
  • One of my youtube videos went viral and got over 20,000 views!
  • Preparing to launch my family on a 6 month trip around the world.
  • Retired airline pilot with 22000 hours flight time having visited 70 countries and over 500 cities.
  • I once slept in a thorn tree because lions were prowling in the surrounding bush.
  • U.S Patent Holder, Irish Native.
  • Can spit a stream of water 8 feet.
  • I used to do oil painting and I specialized in human figure.
  • I was a concert violinist before becoming an imaging scientist.
  • I’m conversational in five languages.
  • I keep at least three types of tea at my desk at all times.
  • I’m a Brazilian Jiu Ji-stu Blue belt.
  • I rode a motorcycle from Ethiopia to Zambia.
