As part of Ideas in Action’s relentless experimentation with new formats to broaden and deepen our mission to bring interesting educational opportunities to our audience, we held our first-ever “Intimate Evening of Talks” at Brookline Interactive Group on March 29.

Just to tease you with a few of the highlights, we had talks featuring a hot-rod accordion, the magic behind Adobe Photoshop, a speaker who came back from the dead, photographs and stories from Steve Jobs’ early career, the REAL story behind the famous snail darter controversy, and a number of touching and intimate personal stories.

Not to be outdone by our fascinating speakers, the audience described itself by submitting “fun facts” that show an amazing diversity – don’t these quotes make you want to hang out around TEDxBeaconStreet to figure out who these people are?

  • My first job was counting beavers from space.
  • I made a Mother’s Day rap album when I was 7.
  • I was once a touring puppeteer and aficionado of Argentine tango.
  • I read particle physics books for fun.
  • I play in a ukelele girl band called the Ukeladies!
  • I used to walk over ten feet of hot coals every summer from high school until college.
  • I was a concert violinist before becoming an imaging scientist.

We couldn’t have pulled off this event without our amazing partners.  Front and center is Brookline Interactive Group, who provided the venue and an incredible team to bring the event to life.  Special thanks to Tessa Amoroso and Ben Brown, MVP’s for this new event!  Kyle MacNaught from the Pulse Network  lent us his keen director’s eye to capture compelling video, Zimman’s Design Services from Lynn, MA decorated the Green Room for our speakers, and glamour photographer Gulnara Gross made sure that our speakers looked their best for their moments in the spotlight.  THANK YOU, IDEAS IN ACTION PARTNERS!

Last but not least, a gaggle of TEDxBeaconStreet volunteers, led by Caty Byerly Rezendes, Serena Facchinetti, and Sunita Saigal, put in countless organizing hours before, during, and after – we’re hoping they’re feeling a distinct glow at how well this experiment turned out!
