Ten will begin … but only one will be left standing at the end.

Welcome to Boston.com’s inaugural NFL Survivor Pool.

Every week, each of our sports writers and editors will pine over the football schedule and pick one guaranteed winner. If correct, he’ll move on to the next week. If wrong, he’ll be eliminated. Simple as that. The only wrinkle is that each participant can only use a team once, so we have to at least pretend we’re being strategic and not just pulling names out of a hat.

You, the readers, will also be involved and working as a team. A different user will be randomly chosen each week to carry on the success of those who came prior.

The competition wraps up when only one active player remains.

The videos I’ve included below are in lieu of my own commentary because, well, the clips are funnier than me.

Zuri Berry – Jets over Buccaneers
The Buccaneers have quarterback issues too. But at least the Jets, led by rookie Geno Smith, have the potential to surprise. This is their week.

Gary Dzen – Patriots over Bills
I don’t know what to make of the Pats and this seems like as sure a game as they’ll have.

Chad Finn – Buccaneers over Jets
New Bucs cornerback Darrelle Revis says he’ll spill the beans on his former team’s offensive tendencies. Presumably that begins and ends with “buttfumble.” The Bucs could be one of the most improved teams in the league this season. But I’m not picking them so much as I’m doing the smart thing: I’m picking against the Jets. Won’t be the last time.

Erik Frenz – Texans over Chargers
Wade Phillips’ blitz-happy Texans defense is the Chargers’ worst nightmare. Philip Rivers was under pressure on nearly 40 percent of his drop-backs last year.

Adam Kaufman – Colts over Raiders
Too early to use up my Luck? Maybe. We’ll find out later in the year. In the meantime, I’m feeling good with the 10-point favorite. If I lose in Week 1, I’m pulling the plug on this whole competition out of sheer bitterness.

Obnoxious Boston Fan – Browns over Dolphins
They have Billy Cundiff kicking in Cleveland. He only misses in January.

Matt Pepin – Patriots over Bills
Nothing gets a round off to a good start like blasting one down the middle off the first tee.

Steve Silva – Browns over Dolphins
The new and improved Dolphins story, Part 7, is fiction. The new and improved Browns are for real…at least for Week 1.

Eric Wilbur – Steelers over Titans
The team nobody is talking about – and should – gets the upper hand on the one everybody is – and probably shouldn’t be.

Guest Reader (Kevin Levesque) – Colts over Raiders
Oakland is terrible this year and Andrew Luck should easily dismantle that defense.
