Iraqis want US pullout timeline

Iraq's prime minister said yesterday his country wants some type of timetable for a withdrawal of American troops included in the deal the two countries are negotiating. It was the first time that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has publicly called for a withdrawal timetable - an idea opposed by President Bush. (By Qassim Abdul-Zahra and Sebastian Abbot, Boston Globe)

Emergency mortgage aid bogged down

Emergency legislation intended to help as many as 500,000 homeowners on the brink of foreclosure to renegotiate their mortgages, which congressional leaders had predicted they would approve by Independence Day, has been delayed and may now be weeks away from passage, lawmakers said. (By Alan Wirzbicki, Boston Globe)

Street artist inspires too much enthusiasm

The owners of a small South End gallery say they had the best of intentions when they commissioned a famous and often mischievous street artist to install a massive political mural on a construction wall lining one of the artiest strips of the South End. It is meant, the gallery said, to inspire dialogue. That it did. (By John C. Drake, Boston Globe)

Picking up the trash standard

He's an athlete, of a kind, though he's also an artist, or at least he talks like one about things like technique and execution and attention to detail. He is famous among his colleagues. (By Brian R. Ballou, Boston Globe)
