Recent municipal elections in Boston may have been low-key affairs, but not this year. Today, voters go to the polls in the first competitive mayoral election since 1993. The Globe editorial page hopes to see a final between incumbent Thomas Menino and Michael Flaherty. This year’s field for City Council at large abounds with good candidates, of whom eight will survive the preliminary. We hope to see John Connolly, Stephen Murphy, Ayanna Pressley, Ego Ezedi, Tito Jackson, Felix G. Arroyo, Robert Fortes, and Hiep Nguyen in the final round. In most district races, incumbents are unopposed or face only nominal opposition. But in the City Council’s District 7, the Globe endorses Carlos “Tony’’ Henriquez. Regardless, we urge all Boston voters to visit their polling places between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. and make their voices heard.
