President Obama was wise to grant the Indian prime minister the distinction of being guest of honor at the new administration's first state dinner. Though conversations between the two men were private, Obama's message to Prime Minister Singh should have clear: India has nothing to fear from improved relations between the United States and India's Asian rival, China.
