The movement to remove the word "retarded" from normal discourse has had some notable successes. The state's department of mental retardation recently changed its name. On the national level, Sarah Palin has drawn useful attention to the cause. At bottom, it's a movement to add dignity to the lives of millions of mentally challenged people.
