Niki Tsongas endorsed Elizabeth Warren for Senate early, and called for Anthony Weiner’s resignation. Like many female politicans today, she is reluctant to play the gender card. But gender still looms large, for better and worse - especially in a state like Massachusetts, which still has a pitiful track record when it comes to electing women. Constituent services could get her reelected. But it’s the gender stuff that gets the biggest headlines, perhaps because there are still so few women talking at Tsongas’ level.
