A State House hearing did little to clear up the mistrust between New England fishermen and their federal regulators. Both sides have understandable positions that aren’t entirely incompatible. But a lot more needs to be done to reach a point of understanding, and Senator John Kerry, who hosted the hearing, should pursue his offer to broker additional private meetings of the key stakeholders to foster an atmosphere of trust.
