The Pentagon’s announcement of modifications to its combat rules for women is too little change, a decade too late. The best that can be said about the Pentagon’s long-anticipated decision is that it is the first time the government has formally recognized women’s contributions to front-line battalions. The second best: that the Pentagon has promised that it will keep evaluating the rules.
