Gareth Cook, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, writes a Sunday column about science and the world of ideas. He was editor of the Globe’s Ideas section from 2007 to 2011. Before that, he was the paper’s science reporter, and his reporting on stem cell research was recognized with the 2005 Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Reporting. He was also awarded the National Academies Communications Award and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Ocean Science Journalism Award. Gareth has served as the paper’s Sunday Metro Editor and New England Editor. Before coming to the Globe, Gareth worked at the Boston Phoenix, the Washington Monthly, US News & World Report, and Foreign Policy magazine. He graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with degrees in international relations and mathematical physics.
