RE "SCANDAL engulfs N.Y. governor: Spitzer, crusader on crime, allegedly paid to meet with a prostitute" (Page A1, March 11): Once again, in the case of Eliot Spitzer, we are witness to the arrogant contempt for the public trust by a man who believes that nurturing his ego is the prerogative of power. From our most recent history, from criminals to CEOs, priests to presidents, generals to governors, have we not seen enough of greed and abuse of power by men unhampered by accountability? Maybe it is finally time to bring more women into our boardrooms, religious institutions, and politics - to restore to the running of our society the real checks and balances our democracy needs.
More representation by women might insure that our institutions are no longer run with a frat-house mentality, where "boys will be boys" and bullying, excusing bad behavior, and covering up for alpha males is the norm.
And as a practical suggestion, maybe we should start by electing Hillary Clinton president. Now, wouldn't that be a timely wake-up call to both Wall Street and Main Street?
