AS HE begins to take the first steps on the road to recovery, Senator Edward M. Kennedy should know that the people of Massachusetts are with him. We hold him in our warm embrace, confident that our collective thoughts, good wishes, and shared memories are powerful medicine indeed.

I FELT very sad and emotional when I heard the news about Senator Kennedy. In my travels, most people have voiced a similar opinion. Kennedy has been the glue who has held things together for his family, and, in many ways, for his country. Whether you agreed with him or not, you knew where he stood. A few years ago, he made a special appearance at the Hatch Shell during the July 4 festivities. He sang and got the crowd singing, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."

I hope and pray that we will get to see him in August at the Democratic convention. What a thrill it will be to hear him speak, and once again, encourage all of us to keep up the good fight.
