It's time for public works to clean up its act

June 2, 2008

IT'S ABOUT time we took a hard look at the public works department in the city of Boston ("Mayor suspends public works director," City & Region, May 28). I've been trying to get a city-owned lot cleaned up in my neighborhood for weeks. In the end, the city negotiated to have a contractor clean the lot.

When the city has to pay an outside contractor while our tax dollars pay for the resources to perform the same work really highlights what's wrong with public works in this town.
