The more things change...

From June 22, 1987

EVEN THOUGH geographically I live closer to Los Angeles than Boston, I am proud to be a Celtics fan. During the 1987 playoff season I was infuriated by CBS Sports, which blatantly favored L.A. - or any other team - as long as it was not the Boston Celtics.

In Game 5 alone, in which the Celtics blasted the Lakers, positive remarks were made 3 to 1 in favor of the Lakers; and at 19 points down we were still hearing of the "Laker explosion."

Danny Ainge, who played a fabulous game, was treated poorly in contrast to CBS's praise of Michael Cooper, who we all know can hit 3-pointers, too.

Even if CBS doesn't appreciate the Celtics' fervor, there are those of us in the West who do. I don't believe in the leprechaun or the mystique, but I do believe in the team and the fans.

Perhaps we will see a matchup between the Seattle Supersonics and the Celtics for the 1988 championship.
