Inquiry into abuse is not a matter of Catholic left or right
BISHOP GEOFFREY Robinson's recent presentation in Dedham was well-reported by Michael Paulson ("Defying hierarchy, bishop urges change," Page A1, May 31). I take issue, however, with Paulson's categorizing those in attendance as the "Catholic left." The audience was composed primarily of Catholics seeking reform from within the church. Bishop Robinson's call for a conversation among laity and clergy to examine those aspects of the church's teachings, structures, and attitudes that may have contributed to the sexual abuse of children is not a matter of the political left or right: It is simply the morally right thing to do.
