SHIRLEY KRESSEL shines a bright light on the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy legislation.
Since the original decision to grant acres of prime space to the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, major decisions regarding the public Greenway have been made behind closed doors. It's time to let the light in, even if new building towers will block some of that light (how did that happen?).
Kressel, however, is being too nice: She doesn't criticize the competency of the conservancy's stewardship.
Under its short term of leadership, we've already seen the disappearance of the Dewey Square farmers market, perhaps the most human and vital of uses on this green space, serving thousands of downtown residents and officer workers every day. The markets that are situated on the publicly controlled Copley Square and City Hall Plaza have thrived for years without this kind of trouble.
It's time to return the city's park to the city's people.
