I WAS reading about who "stepped up" regarding the appeal of the 1913 law ("Legislators who stepped up," Editorial, Aug. 3), making it possible for out-of-state gay couples to get married in Massachusetts. That's just great. We took care of the poor, oppressed gay couples of America, hurray for the Bay State. Are these the same legislators who shot down "Jessica's Law?"
We can go out of our way to help a segmented group of adults get married, and we can all feel good about it, but when it comes to the rape and sodomy of our children, that's just not a concern. Why doesn't the Globe list the legislators who shot down Jessica's Law? I would love to know why this state doesn't believe that the brutal rape of a baby doesn't carry a mandatory sentence.
