YVONNE ABRAHAM is right on the money in her column ("Big mess at the T," City & Region, Aug. 6).
The MBTA is a mess. This is not news. Riders are tired of it and uniformly feel that yet another rate increase would not only be both unfair and unsupportable, it would also do little to fix the T's growing debt problem.
But Abraham also leaves out the most important part of the equation by failing to ask "What can be done?"
The T is in no position to fix itself. Rather, a larger, sustainable source of funding must be found and implemented now.
And instead of disgruntled T riders raising their ire to Daniel Grabauskas (who also needs to be held accountable), a much better tactic would be to hold our state, local, and federal-level politicians' feet to the fire on the important issue of regional transportation policy, along with the current members of the T's executive board.
With gas already over $4 per gallon, and the woes of winter heating bills looming on the horizon, how can we afford not to do so?
