ON TUESDAY, the 88th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, I nominated The Boston Globe online editorial page for the Sexist Moment of the Day Award.

The glories of Globe sexism were on view in photos teasing the following feature stories: the running of the brides, glamorous women in Bill Brett's party photos, and a celebrity quiz in which we are asked to match actresses' laugh lines with their ages.

The icing on this pathetic cake is the lead Globe editorial itself, telling readers that "What do women want?"is "the wrong question for such parlous times." Other issues, says the editorial, are more pressing; as they obviously have been for these past 88 years, so shall they clearly remain to the editors of The Boston Globe. Shame.
