REGARDING THE story about the Harvard Square newsstand possibly closing down: I am not a Boston native, but I can see how the closing of Out of Town News would affect people profoundly. At the same time, however, I believe such change is needed. It is true that print is dying, and the closing of a newsstand is merely a matter of course.

Most of the people in the article who lament the closing of the newsstand are well over 40, or have been going there for years. It's not hard to conclude that these are older folks who are not yet accustomed to the conveniences of the 21st century. Clearly only these older people find the stand useful anymore. It may sound harsh, but they need to accept reality, and just be happy with their nostalgia.

That said, I hope the building still remains. It is a historical landmark, and deserves to be preserved to some degree. I'm in agreement with its being made into a coffee shop, or something of the sort.
