AS A practicing futurist who studies the power of intuition, I read with interest your front-page article on how psychics are helping some individuals with financial decisions ("For psychics, financial future in the cards," March 1).
The general consensus by those interviewed was that things would turn around by fall. We must be viewing different futures. While the future I see may not be popular, I believe it to be highly probable, and it might even help some prepare for a very different world than the one in which we currently live.
I'll start with timing. History says it is time for unprecedented change, an upset, a "black swan" we don't anticipate.
Add to this that our financial system is so complex that no one understands it, and things are extremely out of balance.
We have too many vested in maintaining the status quo; potential solutions would take too long to implement; we have a history of throwing money at a problem to fix it (so we can forget about it); and we have a poverty of imagination -¦no one can envision a different future,¦a new world.
I suggest we will see our way of life turn upside down, not turn around.
