I AM a liberal, a lifelong Democrat, and a neighbor and early, enthusiastic supporter of Governor Patrick, and have voted for the last 40 years the way one would expect a person of that description to have voted. News of the governor's appointment of Marian Walsh to the Massachusetts Health and Education Facilities Authority leaves me dismayed, depressed, and disgusted ("Early Patrick supporter gets plum job: State senator named to $175,000 position," Metro, March 13). This was an administration that was going to end crony politics and crass patronage, and has instead reached new depths in both and new heights of political deafness.
I am dismayed that once again, political campaign promises amount to nothing, and depressed that there is no sign of viable political opposition to the status quo. Perhaps an administration spokesman or an informed Globe reader could enlighten me as to how this appointment of a marginally qualified politician to a post unfilled for 12 years benefits the people of Massachusetts.
