I LIVE in California. On Thursday my longtime, unofficial domestic partner and I will get married. In Massachusetts.
We will be by every possible definition husband and wife. She and I chose Massachusetts because we did not want our marriage tarnished by limitations and restrictions imposed on Californians by discrimination and hate. We believe marriage is about commitment and responsibility, and not about genitalia and imagined, reviled sex acts.
We plan to spend every dollar on our wedding in Massachusetts. We urge every other hopeful and fair-minded (heterosexual or homosexual) couple in marriage-restricted states to marry - if that is their decision - in a state like Massachusetts that supports first-class marriages. There seem to be more of them every day.
