WHEN THE Times Co. closed the Globe's foreign bureaus, I didn't say anything. When other sections of the paper were morphed into the tabloid-format g section, I didn't say anything. When the paper shrank to a laughable size, I didn't say anything. When the price of my subscription rose, I didn't say anything. Enough is enough.

I think it's imperative that the citizens of this Commonwealth have a functioning and independent newspaper. The Globe is a world-class journalistic institution. From the clergy sex scandal to Sal DiMasi's resignation and indictment, the Globe has been the faithful watchdog that our democracy needs to thrive.

Globe management's imposition of a 23 percent pay cut for Guild members is punitive, and I can't sit silent any longer. I am canceling my subscription: I will not support an owner that treats its workers this way. When the Globe's Guild members are treated fairly, I will happily renew my subscription. To quote management: I "regret having to take this action."
