RE “GETTING the GOP out of its mess’’: Charles Bass is right inasmuch as the Republican Party has lost its way. But I fear it’s too late for them.

They don’t seem to stand for anything except to offer nibbling protests at the edges of a crackpot liberal agenda. The suggestion by Bass, that Republicans offer a better healthcare proposal, support climate-change legislation, and create a whole new alternative-energy economy, misses a profound point. Big government pretty much screws up everything it meddles in. Republicans continue to only offer compromises. The libertarian alternative, making government smaller, is not offered by either party.
