AS I read, watched, and listened to the news and commentaries on the death of Michael Jackson, my thoughts turned to the unspoken, tragic message regarding addiction and mental illness.
I’ve been surrounded by mentally ill family members my entire life. I am struck by the fact that even with abounding love, money, and all the resources available, no one can “cure’’ the psychic demons of another.
As I am often at a loss for action as a caring, loving relative to people struggling with demons, it’s strangely reassuring to learn that even the “King of Pop’’ with all his connections and resources could not be saved.
