I AM very often disturbed by the online comments left by Globe readers in reaction to any piece about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the remarks left in response to “Walking miles in Palestinian feet’’ were no exception.
Zealotry and dogmatism are the rule, and anyone with a sensible, middle-ground opinion is venomously accused of either Zionism (sometimes) or anti-Semitism (mostly). I think that most reasonable people understand that both parties share blame for the situation, and neither side has entirely clean hands.
As someone without a stake or a “side’’ in the dispute, it’s frustrating to see those with opposing opinions continue to spew hate at one another.
Not all Palestinian people are terrorists, and not all Jewish Israelis are hateful oppressors.
Recognizing these facts is imperative to improving the situation. Endlessly rehashing past wrongs and calling people names is unproductive and immature.
