WITNESS TO MIDEAST CLASH

Military presence is there to protect against attack

CLAIRE MESSUD (“Walking miles in Palestinian feet,’’ Op-ed) has her head in the sand. The Palestinian feet she so adoringly describes are the feet that transport suicide bombers and their deadly cargo into Jerusalem to blow up cafes and pizza parlors and buses containing innocent men, women, and children. Feet that drive tractors and bulldozers, engaged in normal civilian (not military) projects, to kill and maim ordinary citizens.

The military presence on guard in Jerusalem is there because history has recorded the terror perpetrated by Palestinians on Israelis of all religious pursuits. Guards at the entrances to department stores and other places where people congregate are necessary to prevent these Palestinian feet from doing as they please, for what they please is murder.

How would Messud like living in Cambridge with this type of vigilance necessary to stay alive?
