I WAS shocked and disappointed to hear that Sarah Palin resigned her position as governor of Alaska (“Palin to quit, stunning her state, party: News fuels rumors of a 2012 run,’’ Page A1, July 4). But the one thing I am sure of is that she did not cave under the pressure and stress of the negative publicity she has endured. The Sarah Palins of this world do not cave.
As I listened to her press conference, I thought, she is doing this to strip all of her adversaries of their power over her! I could just see all of the hate-mongers jumping up and down with glee, patting each other on the back, congratulating each other on their success. I could also see how much more effective Palin will be out of the political arena as a voice for those who believe in the same values she does.
That is not to say that she will be a voice for moral choices, which is an inner voice in all of us, but a voice for smaller government, lower taxes, reducing the deficit, balancing the federal budget, and being loyal to our country and its principles.
I firmly believe that we get the government we deserve, no more, no less. Time will tell.
