THE PRESENCE of the sedative Diprivan, or Propofol, in someone’s home is not just “unusual,’’ as described in a Los Angeles story about Michael Jackson (Page A2, July 4). To find Propofol outside a medical facility is downright bizarre and certainly unsafe.
In the context of proper monitoring, Propofol is one of the major advances in pharmacology, as it is used for surgery and other procedures. I can’t begin to describe all of the types of surgery that have been rendered safer and easier because of this drug. Nevertheless, it is definitely not safe to be used in someone’s home, and whoever allowed Jackson access to it deserves severe sanctions.
