POGO’S WISDOM has come home to expose us: We have met the enemy, and he is us. This was my reaction to the report of the Secret Service’s strained resources in dealing with the unprecedented number of death threats against our president and political leaders, the rise in racial hate groups, and antigovernment hostility (“Secret Service strained as leaders face more threats,’’ Page A1, Oct. 18). Can Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden hold a candle to the vitriolic and violent response of American citizens threatening the stability of our society? Our own citizens have joined hands with the devil. Our greatest threat is from within, not without.

This report should not be buried, but kept on the front burner, or otherwise we will be burned by our own. Pogo’s wisdom should be emblazoned everywhere in our country till we get the message and wake up.
