RE “A touch of evil’’ (Ideas, Oct. 18): What is wrong with traditional pumpkins? Why do we need to turn this symbol of Halloween into a violent image, when there is already enough to look at on TV and in the news?

As I read this page, I thought about the woman from Florida whose young son was set on fire. She held a news conference and said we need to work together to make a less violent world.

I didn’t find the humor in this feature, and I would be surprised if any parent did.
