RE “TEACHERS’ house calls make pupils, parents feel at home’’ (Page A1, Oct. 22): Brilliant! This home-visiting practice deserves an A+. And as the article points out, it’s a win-win-win situation: Kids are happy and study harder when the parents and teachers meet together; teachers learn much more about their students at a family meal; and parents want to become involved once a friendly parent-teacher relationship has begun.
High marks should go to the foundation for the National Education Association for giving money to support this program, and to the teachers who are spending their free evenings with the families of school children.
No news is good news? This sort of article turns that adage on its head.
