I TAKE issue with Ryan of ryanstake.net in the Oct. 27 VoxOp (Op-ed). Not all cities and towns are falling apart. Many townspeople use overrides to maintain essential services.

The Globe recently published a graphic showing increases in property taxes in Massachusetts, in the United States on average, and in New Jersey in particular. There is no ballot initiative in New Jersey, and property taxes there are the highest in the nation. Thirty years ago we were known as “Taxachusetts.’’ New Jersey’s taxes have overtaken us.
