THE GLOBE incessantly tells Israel what it should do (“Israel must end provocative digs,’’ Editorial, Oct. 29). It rarely tells China what to do in Tibet. Or Iraq, Iran, and Turkey what to do about Kurdistan or Sri Lanka about the Tamils. Why are you so much more concerned about the Palestinian Arabs?

In your screed you contend that the Israeli digs are under the control of an unnamed “ultra-nationalist Israeli group intent on justifying a Jewish claim to Jerusalem.’’ Yet the Israelis deny this contention. Further, the Globe ignores Israeli claims that Arab excavations endanger the Temple Mount.

The Jordanian objections are laughable. It was they who seized East Jerusalem in 1948, and drove out and then banned Jews until 1967. If the Israelis had emulated the 1948 Arabs in 1967, there would be no Arabs in Jerusalem or the West Bank. However, the Arab population of East Jerusalem has grown from 60,000 in 1967 to 250,000 currently. Hardly a successful example of ethnic suppression.
