Fissures in health care debate
THE SENATE Democrats are clueless. Why? That’s easy: Every Democrat in the United States, except the 59 ignorant Democrats in the US Senate, knew that Joe Lieberman would stab the party in the back at the first opportunity. Guess what? He did.
Majority Leader Harry Reid let him keep his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on the belief that Lieberman would provide him with a filibuster-proof 60 votes. Well, it took him 10 months to show his stripes. One suspects that his next move will be from Independent to Republican. The Democrats should base all their proposals on a plurality of 59 votes. Lieberman won’t be back.
