WHILE SITTING with my head bobbing and eyes closed Thursday night, lost in the beauty of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Boston’s Symphony Hall, the gentleman next to me grabbed my elbow and said, “You’re rocking the seats.’’
Thursday night’s appreciative audience rocked the house with thunderous applause, but no one in this staid crowd was moved, literally.
I don’t understand.
At a Blood, Sweat & Tears concert in my college days many moons ago, several co-listeners and I who couldn’t sit still got up and danced in the aisle.
Are there set rules for how to listen to music?
