AS A recent breast cancer survivor, I’ve been shocked by the new recommendations of the US Preventive Services Task Force on breast cancer screening (“Breast screening advice upended,’’ Page A1, Nov. 17). Like many women, I’ve experienced a few false alarms, requiring a repeat of my annual mammogram. On April 14, 2008, it turned out to be the real thing. I see the money spent on my mammograms as money saved on the chemotherapy I didn’t need, thanks to the mammogram that found my tumor so early. I feel for the women who may not be so lucky and may be put at risk by these new guidelines.
