IT’S CLEAR that given Governor Patrick’s proposed cap on film industry tax credits, he’s in need of a wider-angle lens. It’s understandable that he might be focused on our dwindling state coffers and sees millions of dollars of potential tax revenue slipping away through the existing tax credits. What’s important to remember is that the tax dollars he’s worried about likely will evaporate without the credits. If Patrick pulls back for the wide shot, he’ll see another valuable side to film production in our state: It is marked by the diversity of commerce and jobs that each production brings to our businesses and residents. Those who benefit include caterers, carpenters, police, electricians, couriers, rental houses, hotels - the list goes on. Let’s keep the tax credits in place and the out-of-state dollars flowing to Massachusetts.
