RE “IF serious about peace, Israel should drop housing plan’’ (Editorial, March 16): Israel is serious about peace. Because Israel is serious about peace, it gave the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt in the 1980s. Israel surrendered most of the Gaza Strip and much of the West Bank to the Palestinian Authority in the 1990s. Israel withdrew from Lebanon in 2000, and forcibly removed its own citizens from their homes in Gaza in 2005.

In return, Israel has received demands for even more concessions.

If Israel can’t build apartments in Jerusalem, it can’t build them anywhere in Israel.
