I KNOW the Globe’s editorial staff doesn’t like the existing Rose Kennedy Greenway (“The Greenway: Equal treatment for greasy snacks,’’ Editorial, March 17). Give it a chance! You suggested it is only used for nearby workers to have lunch. Well, as one of those workers, I ask: What’s wrong with that? We enjoy the park — the sunshine, the green, the different people using the park every day. And as for food, I think it’s a great idea to promote local, healthy foods. We weren’t born enjoying hot dogs and greasy sausages. Maybe it’s time to educate people on the joys of eating fresh local fruit salad, or healthier ethnic foods. After all, there are plenty of places within a block of the Greenway to get pizza, sausages, and other artery-clogging foods.
The Greenway is still new and still discovering itself. The games available last year were fantastic. The carousel and fountains are always in use. I’m sorry the various large enterprises haven’t been able to find the financial backing to build their dreams, but let’s not denigrate a lovely green oasis in their absence.
Regardless of what happens in the future, it’s a whole lot better than the noisy, dirty overhead highway that dissected the city in the past.
